The red-throated caracara (Ibycter americanus) is found from southern Mexico to
central Peru and southern Brazil.
It is mostly black, but with glossy green and blue feathers.
It has white streaks on the sides of its head and white underparts. The legs
are orange-red, the bill yellow, the skin on the face red and the eyes red to
brown.
It feeds mainly on wasp grubs, which it gathers by plunging
its head into the nest it has torn open.
